The mission of Best Buddies Pet Pantry: During these difficult economic times, American families across the nation are struggling to make ends meet and must rely on food banks to supplement their food sources. Unfortunately, pets also suffer and do not get proper care and nutrition. Sadly some are disposed of along side the road and starve to death. Many family pets are given up to animal shelters. This causes overcrowding and increases the number of pets euthanized. The pantry’s mission is to help reduce the number of pets surrendered to shelters due to lack of food and help keep families and their pets together.
Best Buddies Pet Pantry is in its 5th year of service in the community. It operates as a mobile pantry, delivering pet food to 15 distribution sites in the bi-state area and providing emergency pet food assistance. The pantry provides free pet supplies, cat litter and flea/tick treatment when available. It also provides information for low-cost spay/neuter service and low-cost vaccination clinics.
Beginning in the fall of 2015, St. John the Evangelist has served as a donation site for Best Buddies Pet Pantry. We collect food, treats and other items needed by the pantry. Volunteers also meet roughly once a month to help package dog treats for distribution.
