South Suburban PADS works to prevent and end homelessness. Among their programs, they provide overnight shelter during the winter for individuals who are experiencing homelessness. (Read more on their website HERE.) Parishioners from St. John’s staff an overnight shelter at St. Lawrence O’Toole in Matteson on the fourth Friday each month. Volunteers welcome guests, prepare and serve meals, distribute clothing and necessities and provide support and conversation for the guests. Recently, St. John’s has also begun providing dinner at the shelter on the second Wednesday of the month.
