After several years’ hiatus, a youth group for high school teens was formed in the fall of 2013. Over the years the meeting schedule has varied, but the group has always shared a strong commitment to outreach. They initiated and led the parish in Caroling for Canned Goods. They have visited and purchased supplies for residents in a local nursing home, shopped for a ReVive Center for Housing and Healing Christmas basket, helped package treats for Best Buddies Pet Pantry, collected and boxed plastic bags for the PADS woven mat project, helped cook and serve dinner at St. John’s annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper.
In 2016-2017 the is functioning as an “opportunity purveyor” of quarterly service projects in our local area, some hosted by other organizations, some organized by St. John’s, which the teens choose according to their interest and schedules. Everyone in the parish and their friends are invited to participate. Projects include: Respond Now Hunger Walk, Socktober, Caroline for Canned Goods, PADS dinner service, and Feed My Starving Children.
